73rd Republic Day celebrated with great fervor, gaiety

New Delhi: India celebrated 73rd Republic Day on January 26, 2022, with great fervor and gaiety.

The main function was held at Rajpath in the National Capital, where President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Ashoka Chakra (Posthumous) to Babu Ram, Assistant Sub-Inspector of J&K Police.

The award was received by his wife Mrs Reema Rani and son Manik Sharma. Late Babu Ram had exhibited exemplary courage during an anti-terror operation in 2020 in Srinagar and killed three terrorists.   

President Ram Nath Kovind, who is also the supreme commander of the armed forces, took the salute of the parade presented by the Ceremonial Battery of 871 Field Regiment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other cabinet ministers were present at Rajpath.

The Republic Day parade showcased India’s military might, cultural diversity, social and economic progress.

There were a total of 16 marching contingents in the Parade – six from the Army, one each from Navy and Air Force, four Central Armed Police Forces, one from Delhi Police, two from National Cadet Corps, and one National Service Scheme.

Lieutenant Manisha Vohra became the first woman to lead the all-male Army Ordnance Corps contingent.

Adding more colour to the celebrations were the 12 Tableaux from different States, Union Territories, and 09 from Ministries and Departments.

The most awaited Flypast had 75 aircraft and helicopters of Indian Air Force. Vintage as well as modern aircraft like Rafale, Sukhoi, Jaguar, MI 17, Sarang, Apache and Dakota displayed different formations.

Besides, 480 dancers, who were selected through the Vande Bharatam dance competition, also performed at Rajpath and won the hearts of the spectators.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the National War Memorial where he led the nation in paying solemn tributes to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath. (PW News)
