CWC chalks out plan to corner Modi government

New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee, the apex decision-making body of the Congress, met on October 16, 2021, here under the leadership of party president Sonia Gandhi, and chalked out a plan to corner the Modi government.

It’s learned that Sonia Gandhi hit out at ‘G23’ for making public statements over the party’s functioning.

Sonia asserted that she is the full-time Congress President and there is no need to interact with her through media.

“I have always appreciated the candor. There is no need to talk to me through the media. That’s why we all have open and honest discussions here. But, what goes beyond this boundary should be a collective decision of the CWC.”

The political resolution passed by the CWC during the meet exhorted all the political parties to join hands to oppose the Modi government.

“We do so and call upon all democratic parties and forces to join hands to resolutely oppose the Modi government in order to protect the values on which our country was founded and to advance the causes of the people,” said the political resolution.

Later, Congress leaders KC Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala briefed the media after the CWC meet.

Venugopal said that three resolutions have been passed in the CWC meeting. In this, Congress will run a public awareness campaign across the country, which will run from November 14 to November 21.

“This campaign is about inflation and increase in prices. Apart from this, a padyatra will be taken out at every booth. Simultaneously, control rooms will be set up in every state.”

Venugopal said that the party will launch a membership drive from November 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. People will be able to get membership of Congress for five rupees.

Apart from this, the process of electing the AICC President will begin on August 21 and continue till September 22.

Venugopal said that the Congress party will hold massive training programmes for all its members.

“Regular and continuous training programmes will be held to train leaders in party ideology, election management, and countering propaganda,” he said.

Surjewala said that the CWC expressed concern about India’s internal and external security.

“China has occupied Indian territory and the PM is calm. Terrorist attacks are continuing from the Pakistan side. The government is looking for excuses to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir and give full statehood. Governments are fighting in Assam, Mizoram, and Nagaland,” said Surjewala.

He added that economies, abolition of all three agricultural laws and the Lakhimpur incident have been discussed.  He alleged that the Central security agencies are being used to increase the base of BJP, and the CWC resolved to end this.

“Modi ji wants to run the government by selling the country’s earning assets. We took a pledge that it is our responsibility to awaken the people of the country. Public awareness campaigns will be run on these issues in the whole country. Both Modi and inflation are harmful to the country,” said Surjewala.

Various reports said that many senior leaders requested Rahul Gandhi to accept the post of Congress President but he didn’t accept it saying he needed time to think about it. (PW News)
