Average assets of 37 MLAs who re-contested grow by Rs 6.53 crore
New Delhi: Michael Vincent Lobo of Indian National Congress (INC), Atanasio Monserrate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Goa Forward Party (GFP) Chief Vijai Sardesai have reported highest growth in assets in 2022, says a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR)
The ADR and Goa Election Watch released the report after analysing the self-sworn affidavits of 37 re-contesting MLAs in the Goa Assembly Election 2022.

Michael Vincent Lobo
Michael Vincent Lobo of the INC, who re-contested from Calangute constituency, has declared maximum increase in assets with an increase of Rs 38.31 crore.
Lobo had declared assets of Rs 54,59,81,558 in 2017 when he contested from from Calangute constituency on the BJP ticket.
In 2022, Lobo has declared assets of Rs 92,91,01,865, which is 70% increase.
Assets of Atanasio Monserrate, who contested from Panaji constituency on the BJP ticket, have increased by Rs 26.87 crore.
As a INC candidate, Monserrate had declared assets of Rs 21,61,52,348 in 2017 and now he has declared assets of Rs 48,48,54,264, which is 124% increase.
The average assets of Goa Forward Party (GFP) Chief Vijai Sardesai, who contested from Fatorda constituency, have risen by Rs 22.40 crore, from Rs 14.75 crore in 2017 to Rs 37.16 crore in 2022, which is 152% increase.
It’s notable that Sardesai’s GFP had become a Kingmaker in 2017 when it helped late Manohar Parrikar to form government in Goa in 2017.
In 2019, Sardesai was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister of Goa on the recommendation of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
Jennifer Monserrate, the BJP candidate from Taleigao constituency, has reported increase of Rs 17,67,35,784 in his assets.
As a INC candidate, Jennifer Monserrate had declared assets of Rs 30,81,18,480 in 2017 and now he has declared assets of Rs 48,48,54,264, which is 57% increase.
Wilfred Dsa, the independent candidate from Nuvem constituency, has reported increase of Rs 13,14,76,069 in his assets.
As a INC candidate, Wilfred Dsa had declared assets of Rs 8,44,49,932 in 2017. In 2022, he has declared assets of Rs 21,59,26,001, which is 156% increase.
Other Highlights of Asset Report Card
- Out of the 37 re-contesting MLAs, assets of 35 MLAs (95%) have increased ranging from 2% to 236%.
- The average assets of these 37 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various parties, including independents, in 2017 was Rs 10.24 crore, which rose to Rs 16.77 crore in 2022.
- Average percentage growth in assets for these 37 re-contesting MLAs is 64%.
Legislative Assembly elections were held in Goa on February 14, 2022 to elect 40 members of the Goa Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.
