Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi highlights importance of water, cleanliness

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed countrymen in the 81st episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

He called for conserving rivers by saying: “We mark so many days, but there is one more day we should celebrate. It is ‘World River Day’.”

He added that for us (Indians) the rivers are not a physical thing, they are living entities.

He also spoke about the special e-auction of the gifts he has received

“A special e-auction of gifts I received is going on these days. The proceeds from that will be dedicated to the ‘Namami Gange’ campaign.”

The Prime Minister also exhorted people to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and the country by giving the example of Mahatma Gandhi.

“It was Mahatma Gandhi who had done the work of making cleanliness a mass movement. Mahatma Gandhi had associated cleanliness with the dream of independence.”

He also called people to buy Khadi products to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

“Let us buy Khadi products and mark Bapu’s Jayanti with great fervour.”
