New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with leaders of pharmaceutical industry and country’s leading doctors via video conferencing.
The Prime Minister appreciated the crucial role of the pharma sector, doctors, medical and para-medical staff for their invaluable service towards the country during the coronavirus pandemic.
Lauding pharma industry, PM Modi remarked that it is because of the efforts of the industry that today India is identified as ‘pharmacy of world’.
Noting the second wave of the virus and rising number of cases, PM Modi commended the pharma industry for their efforts to increase production of several necessary drugs.
He appreciated the industry for reducing the price of injections like Remdesivir.
To keep the supply of medicines and essential medical equipment going smoothly, PM Modi urged the pharma industry to ensure seamless supply chains. PM Modi also extended government’s support for facilities like Logistics and Transportation.
He urged the industry to conduct more and more researches on threats which can occur in the future along with Covid. This, he said, would help us take the lead in combating the virus.
The leaders of the Pharma industry appreciated the proactive help & support received from the Government. The participants also shared inputs on the measures being undertaken to meet the overall medicine demand in the country despite the unprecedented increase in demand for some drugs the COVID Treatment Protocol.
In his interaction with the leading doctors, the PM appreciated doctors and frontline workers for their service during the second wave of coronavirus.
“Recently, the central government has taken many important decisions related to the supply of essential medicines, injections and sufficient availability of oxygen. State Governments have been given necessary guidelines about these,” PM Modi told doctors.
Maintaining that vaccination is the biggest weapon in the fight against coronavirus, the PM urged the doctors to encourage more and more patients to get vaccinated.
He also urged the doctors to educate people against several rumours on Covid treatment and prevention.
Noting that this time the pandemic is spreading rapidly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as well, the PM urged doctors to connect with their colleagues working in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and give them online consultations to ensure that all protocols are followed correctly.
The doctors congratulated PM Modi on his leadership in dealing with the pandemic. They shared their experiences in dealing with the Covid pandemic. They reiterated the importance of people wearing a mask & maintaining social distancing. They also stressed about maintaining health infrastructure for non-Covid patients. They also spoke about how they are sensitising patients against improper use of medicines.
The virtual meetings were also attended by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, MoS (Health) Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Union Minister Chemical and Fertilizer D.V. Sadananda Gowda, MoS (C&F) Mansukh Mandaviya, and senior government officials. (PR)
