Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on October 11, 2021, announced ex-gratia grant of Rs. 50 lakh to the families of three soldiers from the state who laid their lives for the country.
He also announced a government job to one member of the bereaved families
Five soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), were killed in an exchange of fire with heavily armed terrorists in a forested area at Surankote in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Poonch district on October 11,2021, amid a spike in violence in the region.
Those Killed in Action were identified as Jaswinder Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gajjan Singh, Saraj Singh and Vaisakh H, the army said.
Jaswinder Singh, Mandeep Singh, and Gajjan Singh hailed from Punjab.
In a tweet, Channi said: “Punjab Government will be providing ex-gratia grant of Rs. 50 lakh & a Govt. job to one member of the bereaved family of Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh, Naik Mandeep Singh & Sepoy Gajjan Singh who laid down their lives in the service of nation. May their souls rest in peace.”
