Rahul, Priyanka meet kin of Lakhimpur Kheri violence victims

Lakhimpur Kheri: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on October 6, 2021, met the family members of the farmers, and a journalist who were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Both the leaders interacted with the family members of deceased farmer Lovepreet at their house located at Chaukhra Farm in Palia.

After the meeting, they told reporters that these families should get justice.

They told the reporters the families have told them that everyone knows who has done this.

The family of the deceased farmer insisted on the arrest of the accused. Rahul and Priyanka expressed confidence of helping the victim’s family and said that they have come to put pressure on the government so that the victims get justice.

Both the leaders told Lovepreet’s family that Congress is with the farmers and promised to help them in every way in the fight for justice.

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted: “Mr. Rahul Gandhi and Mrs. Priyanka Gandhi met late Lovepreet’s mother, father and both sisters today in Lakhimpur Kheri and shared their grief. Two words of consolation in mountain-like pain also act as ointment. Both the leaders also resolved to support the family in the struggle for justice.”

After staying at Lovepreet’s house for twenty minutes, Rahul-Priyanka reached the house of journalist Raman Kashyap, who was also killed in the violence.

Later, both the leaders also visited house of famer Nachhatar Singh, who also lost his life during the violence.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also accompanied the Gandhis.

Violence in Tikunia town of Nighasan tehsil of Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, 2021, afternoon left six people dead. The dead included four protesting farmers. (PW News)
