New Delhi: The Congress on October 4, 2021, demanded immediate release of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra and the arrest of his son.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress leader Rajiv Shukla termed the detention of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri as ‘illegal’.
“Priyanka ji has been illegally detained. Action should be taken against the policemen who misbehaved with her. She should be released immediately and allowed to go to meet the families of farmers killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.”
Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the violence that broke out on Tikonia-Banbirpur road in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday during farmers’ protest over the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained when she was going to Lakhimpur Kheri.
Shukla also demanded dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home.
“Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra should be sacked and his son should be arrested,” said Shukla.
He also announced that the Congress will hold a nationwide protest on Tuesday to protest against the “murder” of farmers. He also demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the matter.
Shukla told reporters that Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel are not being allowed to go to Uttar Pradesh.
“The Congress government had never stopped any opposition leader from going anywhere.”
Shukla also demanded investigation into the death of other people who died in Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
“Were these people killed to defame the farmers? That too should be probed.” (PW News)
